Welcome to Mr McKenna’s P5 Class – Term 1

A warm welcome to our Primary 5 class! As we begin Term 1, the children are settling in brilliantly and showing great enthusiasm for learning. This term, we’ll be laying strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while diving into a fascinating new topic.

Our theme, “Prove It”, will take us back in time to explore the Stone Age. Through investigation and discovery, we’ll learn about early humans, their tools, homes, and way of life. The children will be encouraged to ask questions, examine evidence, and think like historians as they uncover the secrets of the past.

In literacy, we’ll be focusing on playscripts, poetry, and instructional writing. Pupils will explore how to write and perform short plays, experiment with poetic forms and language, and create clear, step-by-step instructions linked to our topic.

In numeracy, we’ll be strengthening our understanding of place value, number operations, and patterns, while also introducing data handling and measurement through practical, topic-linked activities.

In ICT, we’ll be working with Adobe Express, where children will learn to create visually engaging digital content. They’ll explore design principles and develop their creativity by producing posters, presentations, and multimedia projects linked to our learning.

We’ll continue to make great use of online learning platforms such as Nessy, AR, Mathletics, Google Classroom, My School, and C2k Newsdesk. These tools support learning both in school and at home, and you can access them using the links below.
