P5 Explore the Derry Walls!
Our Primary 5 pupils had an amazing day stepping back in time on the historic Derry City Walls! This trip was a fantastic example of cross-curricular learning—combining our World Around Us topic on local history with our literacy focus on non-fiction writing.
They walked the walls, visited St Columb’s Cathedral, and even held a 400-year-old cannonball fired during the Siege of Derry (1688–1689)!
Outdoor learning like this brings history to life, sparks curiosity, and gives pupils real experiences to write about. We can’t wait to see them turn their research into a non-fiction book using Book Creator—what a brilliant way to showcase their learning!
